One of the all-time ASA greats, Bob Senneker, will attend the 50th Anniversary ASA Racers Reunion at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, July 15.
Senneker, a major fan favorite in Michigan and most other tracks on the ASA National Tour schedule, was the winningest driver in ASA history with 85 victories. Senneker was also the 1990 ASA National Tour champion.
Fans in the eastern parts of Michigan, of course, cheered for Mike Eddy, and the two orchestrated a rivalry that lasted over three decades. Eddy’s driving style was hard-charging, Senneker’s was smooth and calculating.
Michigan fans nicknamed nicknamed Senneker “The Sneaker” for his patience and “The Bluebird” for his blue car which was often “flew” at the front of the field.
From the mid-1970’s through the late 1990’s, Senneker and Eddy were the faces of ASA. They each reached high levels of success, displaying vastly different styles and personalities. Despite the aggressive nature of the stock car racing, their rivalry never got out of hand.
Senneker’s final ASA win came on September 26, 1998 when he won in the season finale at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina. He had competed in 396 ASA races with 85 wins.
The “Bluebird” that will be on display was piloted by Senneker during the 1979 season. He won eight races that year in the car, including the Buckeye 300 at the former Queen City Speedway to close out the ASA National Tour season.
Arkansas’s Alan Ivey bought Bluebird in 2016 from a man in Illinois with plans to strip it down and restore it as a tribute car for fellow short track racer Larry Phillips, but after word got out of its past history and its condition – everything was in original condition from that victory at Queen City – he decided to keep it as is.
The Bluebird was reunited with the Senneker family back in October 2022 when Ivey sold it to Terry Senneker Jr. and his wife Heather, nephew of Bob Senneker, owner of Senneker Performance and an accomplished short track racer himself, particularly in the Outlaw Super Late Model ranks.
Both the legendary driver and the iconic No.84 car will be in Anderson, IN for the 57th Annual Greg Hubler Automotive Group Redbud 400 and the ASA Reunion. Senneker is no stranger to Anderson Speedway, having won the Redbud 400 on three occasions (1980, 1983, 1984).

The Redbud 400 will be co-sanctioned with the ASA CRA Super Series, which will be the third race of the CRA season. Jake Garcia won the North/South SLM Challenge at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on July 2.
The ASA STARS National Tour opened the ten race, six-state schedule at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL on March 11. Ty Majeski is the most recent winner, claiming the victory in the Father’s Day 100 at the Milwaukee Mile.
