The battle for the Noble Wine & Spirits ThunderCars point championship continued to heat up as Ron Phipps scored his second feature win of the year. He joins Ricky Craig and Ronnie Rose with two feature wins, but Rose has not competed for several weeks and has put his car up for sale. Ron Phipps led from the start first chased by Mike Phipps, who again this year suffered mechanical woes after completing just 18 laps. Fast qualifier Dave McConnell moved into the second spot with a pass of Craig on lap 17 and started to turn up the heat on Ron Phipps. But as the last wound down it was apparent that McConnell’s car lost the handling as he continually drifted high in the corners. Following Phipps and McConnell to the finish were Craig and Dennis Hayes in a brand-new car and Nicholas Lewis. It was McConnell’s fifth runner-up finish of the year, and the Shirley driver is anxious to visit the Peterman Brothers Victory Lane this season.
