For the third consecutive time John Robbins found himself standing in the Tim Thompson Nationwide Insurance Winner’s Circle in Thunder Roadster action.
Robbins inherited the lead on lap ten when front-runner Chris Weddel was black-flagged by turning several laps faster than his qualifying time on Herald Bulletin Cow Appreciation Night at Anderson Speedway.
Weddel took the point on the first lap chased by Doug Dugger and Robbins.
Robbins moved into the second spot by the seventh circuit and when Weddel was black-flagged that put him into the lead.
Dugger kept the pressure on Robbins all the way to the checkers, but came up short. Mark Dietzen, Marty Griffin and Brad Kendle rounded out the top five.
Weddel led the entire distance to win the heat race that saw first Griffin bounce off the back straight wall and then a caution flag when Kendle hit the back straight wall.
Robbins and Dugger got around Mark Dietzen just past the halfway point to finish second and third with Dietzen coming home in fourth followed by Rodney Oliver.
Dugger set fast time during qualifications with a lap of 13.507-seconds which was good enough to edge the lap of 13.524 posted by Dietzen. It was Dugger’s first fast time of the year.
