Anderson Speedway officials have made the decision to cancel the races scheduled for this tonight, April 14 due to forecasted rain showers today and this evening. “I had high hopes the forecast would change but after seriously examining the weather forecasts from several sources, the timing of the rain is all over the board” says Speedway President, Rick Dawson. “However, even with some dry spells this afternoon, everything shows rain today and with what we have already had this morning and over the past week, the facilities are reaching saturation. We are committed to putting on a full show of racing for our fans and competitors and unfortunately it appears unlikely that we would be able to run a complete show this evening. Although somewhat warmer than the past weekends, without more substantial heat it would be very difficult to dry the track in the event of more showers. We, our fans and competitors are anxious to race and we have a great season planned once the weather cooperates. The forecasts for next week appear much better and hopefully we will be able to watch a great racing program then.”
The USSA Mel Kenyon Midgets will be rescheduled to an added date on June 2. The other divisions will be rescheduled this week
Dawson continued “Looking back, we were unable to race the first two weeks of April last year, however it ended up being a great 2017 season. I feel confident the same is in store for this year.”
Next Saturday, April 21th, will now be Opening Night at the Speedway featuring the McGunegil Engine Late Models, Hart’s Auto Figure 8’s, Marcum Welding Front Wheel Drives and ThunderCars Racing will begin at 7pm. An Open Practice has been added for next Friday, April 20 from 4pm to 7pm.
