Three different drivers made their first visits to victory lane at Anderson Speedway.
Tommy Cook, who last won at the track in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, played the waiting game to perfection to win the McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model feature. Making a rare start in a late model Joe Beaver took the lead from the front row following the inversion after qualifying, chased by Nathan Greene and Jeff Marcum.
Marcum moved into the second spot with an inside pass of Greene on the back straight and set his sights on Beaver. Meanwhile Cook passed both J.P. Crabtree and Greene to move into the third spot on the ninth circuit.
With Marcum looking for a way around Beaver, Cook was able to close on the front runners and then settled into a patient pace as the two leaders battled for position. Cook’s patience paid off when on lap 28 Beaver spun following contact with Marcum, sending both drivers to the back of the field. Cook took over the point and won by 2.2-seconds over Crabtree with Ronnie Rose, who started tenth in the field, rounding out the top three.
“I was kind of riding there once I got into third,” Cook said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I was waiting to see what (Jeff) Marcum was going to do. It worked out.”
Anderson resident Jacob Owens was able to finally win a Modified race at Anderson Speedway. For the second time this year Owens set fast time during qualifying and started fourth in the feature.
Tyler DeHart took the lead at the start with Owens moving into the second spot with Josh Poore running third. On the fifth circuit both Owens and Poore were able to pass DeHart and the pair waged a fight for the top spot until lap 24 when Poore retired from the event.
Nathan Greene was the driver on the move after starting 11th in the field and drove to a second place finish with DeHart coming home in third.
“I finally got a Modified feature win at Anderson Speedway,” Owens said in victory lane.
Markleville’s Dylan Hoppes won the Marcum’s Welding Front Wheel Drive feature after Cody Riley failed post-race inspection. The initial lead was taken by Austin Pursley who was passed by Josh Ebbert Jr. on the sixth lap with Hoppes running in the top three.
Riley the fast qualifier took the lead from Ebbert on a lap 12 restart and stayed out front until the end.Hoppes moved into the second spot on lap 20 when Ebbert slowed and retired from the race.
Following Hoppes at the finish was Nick Warner and Trevor Fippen.
