When the three drivers leading the Modified race got involved in a tangle, fast qualifier Scotty Tomasik took control of the 50-lap feature. Veteran driver Joe Beaver, making a rare start, Charged into the lead at the point chased by Jacob Owens and Robbie Wyman when the first caution flag waved on lap eight for debris. Tomasik was running fourth at the time with Jason Atkinson in fifth. Things changed following a restart on lap 11 when Owens and Wyman tangled on the back straight with the end result being flat tires on both cars and Beaver having to pit to fix a bent bumper. Both Beaver and Wyman returned to the race, but at the tail of the field. That put Tomasik on the point chased by Atkinson and Jeremy Jackson.
Tomasik pulled away on the restart with Jackson passing Atkinson while Beaver was working his way up to third. Wyman and Adam Lee swapped the fourth spot several times before the checkers waved. Once out front Tomasik continued to drive away from the field with Jeremy Jackson finishing second followed by Beaver, Jason Atkinson and Adam Lee.
“We had the car really hooked up all day,” Tomasik said in the Riley & Sons Winner’s Circle. “Did a lot of work in the shop and got the car dialed in. “I just tried to dodge cars and parts on the back straight,” he said. “Luckily we came away unhurt.” Jackson said the second place showing was his best in a couple of years of racing. “We just keep climbing that ladder, maybe we can get a win,” he said. “I was just riding back there to see how things were going to shake-out and missed that melee back there.”
