Greg Van Alst to Compete in Madison County 200
ARCA Menards Series winner, Greg Van Alst, will return to his roots as he enters the Madison County 200 at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, August 5th. The event, which is a 200-lap CRA Late Model Sportsman race, will honor Madison County during their bicentennial year. Van Alst will be making his first appearance at Anderson since the 2021 edition of the Redbud 400.
“I am excited to come back home and compete on a true short track,” said Greg Van Alst. “Lately, I have been competing on half-mile and superspeedway style tracks (in ARCA & Xfinity). It is going to be fun to be home!”
A regular competitor in the ARCA Menards Series and currently a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Van Alst is an experienced driver that has competed on a wide variety of race tracks. From superspeedways to short ovals to road courses, Van Alst has seen them all. In 2014, Van Alst was crowned the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Champion and in 2019 became champion of the ARCA/CRA Super Series. Van Alst went full time racing with the ARCA Menards series in 2021 after having not competed with the series since 2002. Arguably his greatest achievement came in February 2023 at when his drove his #35 Greg Van Alst Motorsports machine to victory lane at Daytona International Speedway.
Van Alst will pilot the #83 car that Anderson Speedway fans are used to seeing reigning track champion, JP Crabtree, compete in. Crabtree, however, will still be competing in the Madison County 200 driving for Derrick Layne. Ironically, the car that Crabtree will be driving on Saturday is a car formerly owned by Greg Van Alst himself.
The Madison County 200 is set for Saturday, August 5th at 7:30pm. The event is in conjunction with the Madison County Bicentennial Celebration to commemorate Madison COunty’s 200th birthday. The CRA Late Model Sportsman series, Noble Wine & Spirits Thundercars, Marcums Welding Front Wheel Drives, and Thunder Roadsters will all be in action. Pit gates will open at 2:00pm and front gates will open at 4:00pm. Rotating practice will begin at 4:00pm with qualifying set for 5:30pm and green flag at 7:30pm. All of the night’s racing action will be streamed LIVE on RacingAmerica.
