ANDERSON – The closest of the championship battles at Anderson Speedway wasn’t decided until the last race of the season.
Anderson Speedway crowned champions in four divisions with none of them determined until after the double point awarded feature events on Sherman Williams night.
Dylan Hoppes and Josh Ebbert Jr. were deadlocked for the championship of the Marcum’s Welding Front Wheel Drive Division.
For the first time all season Hoppes posted fast time during qualifying followed by Ebbert.
Hoppes than won a heat race and went into the feature event with a slim 8-point margin.
Hoppes took the lead at the start chased by Ebbert and Austin Pursley.
Ebbert looked for several laps to take the lead by looking to the low groove coming off the fourth corner, finally making the pass stick on the eighth lap entering turn one.
The caution flag waved on lap nine when Cody Riley and Jonathan Pitts tangled in turn three.
Hoppes went to the pits and didn’t return to action giving Ebbert his first track championship.
“I hardly slept the last two nights,” Ebbert said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I knew I had to finish him front of him (Hoppes) and waited for the opportunity.”
John Robbins added the Legends championship to his already earned title in the Thunder Roadster division.
Robbins was in a tight battle with teammate Xavier King for the title.
Starting from the pole position Robbins was chased closely by Sam Johnson with King holding down the third spot.
Johnson several times got inside of Robbins on the front straight, but was unable to make the pass because of lapped traffic.
Finally on lap 29, Robbins got stuck behind a slower car which allowed Johnson to take the lead and score his third feature win of the year.
Robbins finished second followed by King, Johnny Weaver and Max Olmstead II.
In the Modified division, contender Tyler DeHart took the lead in the 50-lap feature chased by Nathan Greene and Jacob Owens.
DeHart spun on lap 39 and retired from competition. Greene went on to win the feature race followed by Owens, Wayne Chinn, David McConnell and Joe Beaver.
Owens was crowned the unofficial driver champion while Greene claimed the owners title.
A third place finish in the Vore’s Welding and Steel Street Stock division brought Anderson’s Andrew Cook the championship over Ricky Craig.
King, doing double duty, led the entire distance with Jordan Hahn finished second followed by Cook, Craig and Hoppes.
