Greenfield driver Doug Dugger finally found his way to a feature win in the Thunder Roadster Division at Anderson Speedway.
Dugger had finished second in three consecutive races and celebrated his first feature win of 2014 in the Tim Thompson Nationwide Insurance Winner’s Circle on Saturday.
Mark Dietzen took the early lead chased by Dugger, Chris Weddel, John Robbins and Rodney Oliver as a result of a full-field inversion following qualifications.
Dugger was able to pass Dietzen on lap seven with an outside pass on the front straight with Robbins slipping inside of Dietzen eight laps later.
From that point Robbins closed on Dugger, several times looking to grab the inside line in turn three. Robbins backed out of the throttle to avoid contact.
On the run to the checkers, Robbins dipped inside of Dugger but came up one-tenth of a second short. Dietzen held on for third followed by Weddel and Oliver.
“I’m not a bridesmaid anymore,” Dugger said following the win. “I thought we were going to wreck, but John (Robbins) backed out.”
Robbins scored his first heat win of the season by passing Dietzen on the back straight with an inside move with two laps remaining.
Dietzen had led from the start with Robbins working his way to the front from the third spot.
