Racing action returns to Anderson Speedway on Saturday, May 10 with Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, NASH FM ThunderCars and Front Wheel Drives Figure 8’s.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will have their third event of the 2014 season. Saturday’s event will be the second of five series races at the fast quarter-mile oval featuring the series regulars battling against the Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models.
The CRA Late Model Sportsman opened their 2014 season at Anderson Speedway on March 30, with 14-year-old Chris Hacker getting the win. It was Hacker’s second series win after also getting a win during the 2013 season and becoming the youngest driver ever to visit victory lane with CRA. Trey Craig picked up the victory in the series second event of the season at Lucas Oil Raceway on April 6.
After two events in 2014, Jason Atkinson is the current series point’s leader after getting a runner-up at Anderson and a third-place finish at Lucas Oil Raceway. Atkinson has a five point lead over top series rookie in points Eric McGlothlen. Third is Hacker with rookie Jack Dossey III fourth and Billy Van Meter in fifth position.
Dossey is the current point’s leader with the Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models. Kent Baledge is second with Van Meter and John Watson tied for third. Jeff Marcum is fills out the top five. Danny Trent won the last McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model event on April 21.
Curtis Chapman sits atop the NASH FM ThunderCars standings with a three point cushion over Robbie Wyman. The remainder of the top five includes Jeff Marcum, Austin Russell and Lonny Burton.
In the Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s, Randy Owen leads Kamden Creek by eight points. Third place is Randy Hoppes with Brian McKinney and Elliott McKinney completing the top five heading into this weekend’s action.
On Saturday, May 10, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing beginning at 8. Admission is $12 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.
