Anderson Speedway to Resume Track Activities

May 26, 2020 – Anderson, IN – As the State of Indiana moves through stage 3 of Governor Holcomb’s plan to reopen, Anderson Speedway is pleased to announce expanded track activities for the next two weekends, May 29th and 30th and June 5th & 6th. Phase 3 of the Governor’s plan unfortunately does not include spectators; however, racing action may return on a controlled basis.

On May 29th and June 5th competitors may participate in open practices from 4pm to 7pm each night. Saturday, May 30th will see ThunderCars, Front Wheel Drives, Thunder Roadsters and the Midwest Champ Karts in racing action. On Saturday, June 6th, the USSA Mel Kenyon Midgets, CRA Late Model Sportsman, Thunder Roadsters and Pro Compacts will be in competition.

As with the prior open practice all safety protocols will be enforced including social distancing in the pits. Anyone showing any of the symptoms of the Covid virus will not be permitted in the pits. The front, spectator stands will be inaccessible to competitors. The Speedway highly recommends each team to bring only necessary and essential crew members. Ample sanitizing stations have been installed for hand sanitation.

“Although this is not the ideal situation I want, it is all we can do at this point” said Rick Dawson, President of Anderson Speedway. “Racing is a spectator sport and myself and the racers enjoy racing in front of their fans. If all goes as planned, Stage 4 of the Governor’s plan takes effect in three weekends from now and currently we have a big night planned to welcome everyone back to the track.”

Due to the unique nature of this event, all pit passes will be $35. Delicious food will be available in the concession stand.  Race times for these two events will be altered to begin racing activities at 4 PM each Saturday afternoon.
