Points Leaders Pace Redbud 400 Open Practice
A new era of the Redbud 400’s storied history kicked off Friday afternoon with open practice for the Vern’s Concrete Late Models and Vore’s Welding And Steel Street Stocks ahead of the 60th Annual CB Fabricating Redbud 400 Saturday night. A new format awaits Saturday night as local stars take center stage for a pair of 200 lap races.
The current points leaders in both divisions were fastest overall in open practice. In his last run of the afternoon, Ryder Van Alst jumped to the top of the board with a 12.489 just ahead of 2019 Redbud 400 runner-up Jack Dossey III in the Late Models, who is returning to Anderson for just the second time since 2020. While Van Alst is making his first Redbud appearance, his father Greg has five starts in the event, with a best finish of 4th in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Street Stocks were led by the winningest Street Stock driver in Anderson Speedway history, Josh Poore. The Anderson native ran a lap of 13.615 ahead of past CRA Four/Five Crown winners Brett Hudson and Andrew Teepe. Poore is one of three drivers pulling double duty Saturday night, joining JP Crabtree and James Kirby III.
The first-ever Pit Stop Challenge took place after practice involving the top three drivers in points in both divisions. Crabtree (Late Models) and Poore (Street Stocks) picked up wins in the competition.
With two 200-lap races, $5,000 on the line for each winner and a field of local stars ready to battle for Redbud 400 glory, Saturday night’s event promises to be one of the biggest nights of racing on the Anderson Speedway calendar.
Qualifying is set for 4:15 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Adult tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on race day. Tickets for children ages 6-12 are $10, while children five and under are admitted free.
Fans traveling to Anderson Speedway for the Redbud 400 can also take advantage of free primitive camping on the speedway grounds. No hookups are available.
