Marcum, Poore share history making spotlight
ANDERSON – Two local competitors at Anderson Speedway made history and put their names in the record books on Saturday.
Jeff Marcum, a seven-time McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model champion, made it a clean sweep of the four races the CRA Sportsman Late Models competed in during the year at the track.
Marcum secured his 16th CRA Sportsman Late Model feature win creating a tie with Jason Atkinson for most wins.
Cassten Everidge set fast time during qualifying edging out Marcum and following invert the two fastest qualifiers would start sixth and seventh in the field.
Caleb Reschar took the lead at the start but only led the opening lap before yielding to Danny Trent with Marcum taking the point on the ninth circuit.
From there he opened a comfortable lead over Everidge when the caution flag waved when Jason Wray spun in turn two and collected the fourth place car of Trent.
Marcum was able to hold off Everidge on the restart and went on to record the victory with Everidge and Hunter Jack rounding out the top three.
Everidge, Jack and JP Crabtree battled for the second spot nose to tail for much of the second half of the race.
“I was fortunate on the first restart because the outside line was moving,” Marcum said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I wanted to make that run on the outside early with fresher tires.”
He said there was a good field of fast cars on hand for the 75-lap event and always fun to race against tough competition.
Marcum said he had a clue that a win would put him at the top of the win list for the touring series.
Anderson’s Josh Poore led the final 43 laps to capture the CRA Street Stock feature.
It was his 51st feature win at Anderson Speedway tying him with legendary driver Rick Fields.
Ryan Amonett led the first 31 laps chased by Dalton Conner and Andrew Teepe.
Poore started fourth in the field and on lap 27 was able to move into the second spot when Conner and Teepe tangled and ran up the track coming off the second corner.
Poore took the lead from Amonett with an inside pass coming off the second corner.
With Poore outfront the battle was for second between Conner, Teepe and Joe Muldoon. Lap after lap Teepe was looking to get inside of Conner, but couldn’t make the pass work.
“I was really glad to bring it home,” Poore said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “This is a brand new car, first time it’s been raced.
“Feels really good,” he said of tying the record. “Rick Fields was one of my idols.”
