Owen, Allender Figure-8 Madness winner

Randy Owen took advantage of misfortune for the early race leader to win the Ford Division Figure 8 race at Anderson Speedway.

There was a large crowd in attendance on Best Way Disposal Figure-8 Madness night presented by the Scrounge Around.

After not competing for six years Ronnie Phipps set fast time during qualifying and with the inversion started eighth in the field.

That inversion put Colin Grissom and Jordan Tharp on the front row with Grissom getting the jump at the start.

The caution flag waved on the second lap for a spin by Phipps and Anthony Jackson. That restart allowed Rickie Tharp II to take the lead from Grissom from the second row.

But Tharp’s night ended a lap later when there was heavy contact with the car of Wylyn Conn in the cross-over.

That put Owen into the lead and from there he was chased by Grissom, Curtis Chapman, Colson Gray and Josh Tharp

At the finish Owen won by 3.9-seconds with Grissom coming home in second followed by Gray.

The outcome of the Marcum’s Welding Front Wheel Drive Figure-8 race was not decided until the final laps.

Elliott McKinney grabbed the point at the start and was chased by Josh Hague and Josh Ebbert Jr.

Ebbert moved into the second spot by the third lap and stayed glued to the rear bumper of McKinney looking for an opportunity to make an inside pass.

The two ran nose to tail when on lap 14 there was contact with a lapped car entering turn one sending Ebbert spinning.

James Allender inherited the lead when McKinney and Ebbert were relegated to the back of the lead lap cars.

McKinney quickly climbed into contention for the victory but Allender prevailed by two-tenths of a second on the run to the checkered flag. Hague finished third.

John Robbins won the Thunder Roadster Roval race leading the entire distance with Doug Dugger and Eddie Richardson rounding out the top three.

Grissom won the School Bus Figure-8 race and Nick Warner was the winner of the Prairie Farms Trailer race.
