Greenfield’s Doug Dugger had the oval track at Anderson Speedway pretty much handled in a Thunder Roadster, it was the “Roval” races that caused him headaches. Dugger held off a hard charging John Robbins to win the feature on Byrider Season Championship night and a second championship in the division.
After setting fast time during qualifications, Dugger charged into the lead and was pulling away from Robbins enroute to what appeared to be a comfortable win. But when Dugger encountered slower traffic, Robbins closed to within striking distance and in the closing laps the Frankton driver was turning faster laps. Robbins ended the night second with Austin Cory coming home in third and finishing as the runner-up in the point standings. It was Dugger’s fourth feature win of the year to go along with a second place finish on the oval. He finished fifth in the two “Roval” races.
“You can never count John (Robbins) out,” Dugger said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I didn’t know how close he was, I was just trying to run the low groove.” The four feature wins in one year was a career best for Dugger, who won the championship in 2020.
