Salem, Indiana (September 23, 2020): The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models will continue their 2020 season with their fifth and final event of the season this Saturday at Anderson Speedway, located in Anderson, Indiana. Saturday will be the series Season Championship event after the series discarded the Chase for the Championship format for the 2020 season and went to a conventional points Champion after COVID-19 pandemic caused several of the series events to be cancelled.
The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models was a new racing series in 2019 to focus on a youth movement for short track stock car racing that saw 10 to 15-year-old drivers compete amongst themselves for both experience and recognition in full size late models with an economical drivetrain and suspension alternatives. Chase Burda was the inaugural series Champion in 2019, he has now moved up to compete with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in 2020.
Some of the key components for the rule package for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models will be the mandated use of the $3900 factory sealed Chevrolet Performance 602 crate engine. Teams will also be utilizing less expensive rear ends, transmissions and springs and spec KONI Shocks. The series will also be racing on 8-inch steel wheels and utilizing 8-inch Hoosier Racing tires. The series has competed on 3/8 mile and under racetracks with most events consisting of 8 lap heat races and a 25-lap feature.
14-year-old VanDoorn Racing Development Registered Rookie Jordon Riddick picked up the win in the series season opener at Anderson Speedway on June 13th. It was Riddick’s first ever late model race. 13-year-old second year series competitor Katie Hettinger got her first series win in the series second event of the season on July 11th at the Indianapolis Speedrome.12-year-old VanDoorn Racing Development Registered Rookie Keegan Sobilo became the third different winner in three Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models events to date in the series event at Anderson Speedway on August 22nd. Hettinger picked up her second win of the season this past Saturday at Toledo Speedway.
With her win Saturday night, Hettinger has reclaimed the series points lead. Hettinger has a three-point advantage over second place 14-year-old Evan Varney. 12-year-old Zack Wilhelm is in third, he is five points behind Varney after finishing second in Saturday night’s Toledo event. Keegan Sobilo is in fourth place, he is eight points behind Wilhelm and is the leader in VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie of the Year points. 12-year-old Dawson Knaul is in fifth place, he is six points behind Sobilo.
There will be an optional open practice on Friday, pits open at 3pm, practice will go from 4pm to 7pm. Pits open on Saturday at 2:30pm. Practice will begin at 4pm. MPM Marketing Qualifying will begin at 5:30pm for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models. Racing action will begin at 7pm and will include eight lap heat races and a 25-lap feature for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models. Also racing that evening will be the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman and the Anderson Crown Vics and FWD Figure 8’s.
