The 66th Pay Less Little 500 starting field will begin to take shape during Pole Day set for Thursday, May 22 at Anderson Speedway. The top 15 qualifiers will be locked into Saturday night’s 33-car starting field after the completion of round one qualifying.
On Thursday, practice is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. and finishing up at 1:15 p.m. First round qualifying for the Pay Less Little 500 will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
California native Jo Jo Helberg earned the pole position in the 2013 Pay Less Little 500. He was joined on the front row by Mr. Little 500 Eric Gordon and Indiana’s Shane Hollingsworth.
Drivers that are entered this year that have scored Little 500 pole positions include Helberg (2013) Aaron Pierce (2011, 2006), Tony Elliott (2009), Donnie Adams Jr. (2007) and Jeff Bloom (2001).
In the all-time records, Dave Steele and Frank Riddle sit atop the career pole position charts. Both drivers scored five poles with Tom Cherry grabbing four and Jim Childers and Doug Heveron collecting three apiece.
The most recent driver to win the pole position and the Pay Less Little 500 race victory in the same year was Steele in 1996.
