Shantell Banks Moves to Insight ThunderCars in 2005

Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive competitor Shantell Banks has elected to move into the Insight ThunderCar Oval division in 2005. She will continue to drive for Al Gable in the upcoming season at Anderson Speedway.

“I’m looking forward to competing in the ThunderCar division next season,” said Shantell Banks. “I really enjoyed racing last season in the Front Wheel Drives and learned a lot that will be beneficial to our ThunderCar program in 2005. I appreciate greatly everything Al Gable and all of our sponsors have provided for my racing effort at Anderson Speedway.”

In 2004, Banks placed 16th in the Front Wheel Drive final point standings, after she was unable to compete in a couple feature events during the season. Her highlights included four top-five finishes and eight top 10s.

Gable has been a fixture at Anderson Speedway for over 15 years. Last year, he worked with Banks in Front Wheel Drives. He has been involved in ThunderCar, Street Stock and Sportsman style racing for nearly 15 years. Gable, of Greenfield, was a vital member of Mike Shull’s championship run during the final Sportsman season in 1992.

In 2005, Banks, 20, will receive sponsorship from Jenkins’ Automotive, Mattingly Automotive Performance Engines and Big Al’s Garage.

The 2005 Insight ThunderCar Oval season begins on Saturday Night, April 2, making a special appearance on opening night with the regular Saturday divisions.
