Fullen, Sneva, Walters, Baker and
Goforth Spring Fourth at Anderson
A
record MAX/WLBC Summer Series crowd saw nearly 100 cars go into battle at the
Anderson Speedway Friday evening with veteran John Goforth springing forth over
the competition to capture the exciting ThunderCar Figure 8 while Jason Fullen
was the Limited Late Model victor. T.J. Sneva continued his winning ways in the
Legends, Joe Walters took Thunder Oval and Jerry Baker was top dog in the
Chappy's Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive headliner.
Fullen had a clean sweep in the Limited Late Models capturing the heat, feature
and was also fast timer at 13.433 seconds. Mike Riddle Jr. and Mike Neal were
chasers in the heat.
In
the feature, Robin Burton enjoyed her first Limited Late Model ride as she led
the first 27 circuits of the 30-lap feature. Robin went wide letting Fullen slip
by for the win. Riddle was able to slide to second followed by Burton, Neal and
Tom Latham.
Legend racing saw an awesome feature with four different leaders in the 25-lap
event. Brian Downey was on top from the get go until being passed by Mark
Sullivan.
Sullivan's lead lasted one lap before Tommy Jordan charged to the point. Jordan
and Sneva had been charging through a half inverted field with the two hot shoes
putting on quite a battle. Jordan is usually unbeatable when he comes up from
South Carolina but T.J. Sneva took the lead for good on lap 16 and sailed on to
his sixth win of the season. Trailers were Jordan, Sullivan, Bryan Phifer and
Scott McGinley.
Downey dominated heat No. 1 over Jordan and Homer Adams Jr. while Clark Dietzen
was the second heat winner over Aaron Habig and Paul Holden. Sneva was again
fast qualifier at 14.209 seconds.
Some 26 cars started the ThunderCar Oval and it was traffic city. Joe Walters
grabbed the lead from Jesse King on lap three and never looked back. Roy Grissom
Sr. in a borrowed car took second followed by Tim Dick, Josh Tharp and Eric
Evans.
Ranny Hinton took the point at the start of the ThunderCar 8. On lap four
Grissom and newcomer Jeff Joest met at the cross-over in a grinding crash. Both
were ok. Upon the restart. Hinton continued on top with John Goforth, who has
been away for several years, moving into second. Goforth grabbed the lead with
four laps to go and went on to the win over Hinton, William Coffman, Jim Brown
and Roy Ellis.
The exciting Chappy's Rent To Own Front Wheel Drive division continues to grow
with 27 cars taking the green. Bill Greene led the field the opening five
circuits before Chris Teepe took control. Teepe waltzed to the victory only to
be disqualified for illegal tires. Patrick Spillis was awarded the win over
Chris Jennings, Darryl Rogers, Larry Shrock and Allen Roberts.
