Miles, Boyer and Rose Bag Wins at
Anderson
Summer like weather has finally came to Indiana and that brought some hot racing
action to the Anderson Speedway Saturday evening before a large crowd.
Muncie's Bret Miles took the Mike Davis/Craig Construction Chevrolet to his
second consecutive Phillippe Ecowater Super Truck victory in a hard fought
event.
Anderson’s Rich Boyer bagged his third checker of the season in the Terry's RV
Street Stock headliner, padding his already huge point lead in the Boyer
Brothers Racing Monte Carlo.
Fellow Anderson ace Ronnie Rose survived a busy crossover to capture his
second Figure 8 win in the Herb Rose/B & F Machine Caprice.
Defending point champion Brent Busby started from the point in the 40-lap Super
Truck headliner with Bret Miles glued to his tailgate. This duo put on quite a
driving exhibition with lapped traffic the only thing that separated them.
Miles pressed Busby to the limit and then on lap 21 Busby's mount slipped in
Turn 1 but a bobble was all that Miles needed to take over the top spot. From
that point Miles was able to develop a three truck lead which he held to the
checker. Trailers were Busby, Joe Beaver, Rob Hazelbaker and Josh Burton.
Miles also took the first heat defeating Hazelbaker and Burton. Mark Jennings
took the checker in heat No. 1 only to be disqualified for failing to report to
tech. Robert Lemen was awarded the win over Mike Mendenhall and Buddy Davis.
Busby was fast qualifier at 13.671 seconds.
Rich
Boyer, courtesy of a straight up inversion draw, began his mission from the pole
in the Street Stock feature. Boyer is dedicating the season to the memory of his
Father, Billy Boyer Sr., who passed away last fall.
Boyer certainly seems to be focused as he never made a mistake in the 25-lap
event. 2001-point champ Danny Acrey was able to close to within striking
distance on a couple occasions. At the checker it was Boyer the victor over
Acrey, Terry Burton, Kevin Montgomery and Melissa Winegar.
Curtis Chapman won the first heat defeating Boyer and mike Frederick while Chris
Hanna came from the back to capture the second heat over Terry Malone, Jr and
Kevin Brooks. Boyer was fast qualifier at 14.474 seconds.
In
the Figure 8 main event, Ronnie Rose brought the large field to the green flag
from his pole position. Johnny Magee was like a Siamese twin with Rose.
On lap seven, Magee, Matt Tharp and Bobby Long went into Turn 1 three wide and
something had to give. It did with Tharp and Long sailing out the pit gate.
The
yellow flew with Magee joining the duo on the tail on the restart. Jeff Swinford
took up the chasing chores and was doing well until lap 17 when he was involved
in a crossover crash with Magee. Both were ok. The final three circuits belonged
to Rose as he defeated Ronnie Phipps by a length. Rounding out the top five were
Ricky Tharp, Rod Phipps and Michael Phipps. Rose was fast qualifier at 20.609
