Tyler, East Post Victories

Brian Tyler and Bobby East emerged as victors during Wednesday night's USAC racing action at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Tyler led all 50 laps to win his first National Sprint Car Series event of the season, the USAC 50, while East took the second Indiana Ford Focus Midget Series race.

Tyler, who led from the pole, jumped into the lead on lap one and was quickly followed by points leader J.J. Yeley, who fought to second by the end of the second turn. From there, the pair pulled away and led by nearly a straightaway over Levi Jones and Jay Drake a third of the way through the race. Boston Reid got into the backstretch wall on lap 18 to bring out the first of two cautions.

Tyler and Yeley pulled away on the restart, but two separate incidents in the fourth turn on lap 24 bunched the field up again.

From there, the race became a two-car battle for the lead. Yeley tried high and low, in the clear and in traffic, but a last lap attempt on the outside came up short, as he trailed Tyler to the line less than a car length. Bud Kaeding, who was involved in an incident during his heat race, finished third, ahead of Drake and Cory Kruseman.

Winners in the heats included Derek Davidson, East, Chris Hayes and Michael Lewis. Tracy Hines won the 12-lap semi feature.

East, driving in his first Ford Focus race, grabbed the lead on lap two from Heather Margo and checked out, leading the final 19 laps of the 20-lap contest. Following East to the line were Derek Crasi, Ryan Hamilton, Robbie Ray and Brice Kenyon.

Yeley now owns a 63-point cushion over Hines, who finished the 50-lap race eighth. The next National Sprint Car Series event takes place Sunday at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, while the Ford Focus midgets resume action May 30 at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind.
