Anderson’s Josh Poore took advantage of a
restart to pass early leader Dustin Burge to
capture the Street Stock feature at Anderson
Speedway on Saturday
Poore visited the Tim Thompson Nationwide
Insurance Winner’s Circle for the first time
this season as the Street Stock Division
made its first appearance of 2014.
Burge grabbed the point on the opening lap
from the third starting position when pole
sitter Fred Hopkins slipped high on the back
straight which forced James Kirby to
check-up. Burge dove to the inside to take
the lead.
The only caution flag waved on lap seven
when Hopkins spun coming off the second
corner.
On the restart Burge selected the inside
line but was unable to hold off Poore, who
made the pass entering turn three.
After the restart Poore pulled away to a
comfortable lead over Burge for the win
followed by Kirby, Andrew Cook and Jason
Shipp.
Cook lost the oil pan on his car during
practice and returned in time for a strong
showing in the feature event.
“Car got faster on the long run,” Poore, the
2011 track champion said. “Dustin (Burge)
and James (Kirby) both raced me hard.”
For Kirby it was a third place finish in his
first competitive race at Anderson Speedway.
Fred Hopkins led the entire distance to
record the victory in the heat race, but the
driver on the move was Kirby.
Kirby was running fourth after the first lap
and then started is climb toward the front.
He got inside of Burge on the second lap
along the front straight to move into the
third position and a lap later used the same
move to claim second from Jeff Hopkins.
Poore finished third followed by Burge and
Jeff Hopkins.
During qualifications Poore set fast time
with a lap of 13.869-seconds followed by
Burge at 13.907-seconds and Kirby with a lap
of 14.243-seconds.
