(April
7, 2014) - Kenny Smith scored the
Super Karts win at Anderson Speedway but he
was challenged for the entire distance.
Despite an invert of the six fastest
qualifiers, Smith charged from the sixth
starting spot on the first lap to run second
to Brad Kares on Tom Raper RV Night at the
Races on Saturday.
Two laps later Smith was in front chased by
the father and son team of Brad and Dustin
Kares with Michael and Angie Goodin rounding
out the top five.
A lap later, Angie Goodin passed her husband
Michael, who also lost a spot to Jason
Reynolds.
With the field running in close formation,
Brad and Dustin Kares both spun on the back
straight on lap six bringing out the only
caution flag.
On the restart Angie Goodin took advantage
of the high line and passed Smith for the
lead entering turn one. Three laps later
Smith used the draft to get a run on Goodin
down the front straight and reclaimed the
point entering turn one.
With Goodin staying close behind the two
front runners opened up a comfortable lead
through the middle stages of the race but
Dustin Kares, Jason Reynolds and Michael
Goodin hooked up in a three-kart tandem to
close on the leaders with three laps
remaining.
Kares passed Angie Goodin with an outside
move on lap 19 going through turn three to
claim second followed by Goodin, Reynolds
and Michael Goodin.
Smith said he knew it would be a tight race
with Angie Goodin.
“I thought if I could get past her, I would
be able to hold onto the lead,” Smith said.
“I knew she had a fast kart.”
Angie Goodin led the entire distance to win
the first of two heat races with Smith
always maintaining close contact.
Michael Goodin passed Dustin Kares and Brad
Kares on consecutive laps to claim the third
spot.
Jason Reynolds passed Bruce Harper on the
second lap with an inside move going down
the back straight to win the second heat
race. Harper finished second followed by
Hunter Goodin.
