(April
7, 2014) - It was the perfect start
to the 2014 season for Nick Warner in Front
Wheel Drive Figure-8 action on Tom Raper RV
Night at the Races at Anderson Speedway.
Warner set fast time during qualifying, took
advantage of some luck to win the heat race
and misfortune to Kevin Henson to dominant
the feature.
Starting from the front row, Henson took the
early lead chased by Randy Owen, Elliott
McKinney and Warner.
While running out front on lap three,
Henson’s car slowed dramatically and he
dropped to the back of the pack. Henson said
his car briefly lost power.
That put Owen in the lead chased by Warner
and McKinney. Owen remained on the point
until lap five; when Warner got a run off
the second corner and took the lead with an
inside pass down the back straight. Owen
dropped out of competition a lap later.
From there Warner pulled away to win by
3.9-seconds over McKinney, with Henson
recovering to finish third followed by
Kamden Creek and Randy Hoppes.
In the heat race, Warner used a slick move
to the inside on the final lap to take the
lead from Kamden Creek entering turn one.
Creek led from the start chased in
succession by Henson, Owen, McKinney and
Warner. Coming to the white flag the
leaders, running in a tight pack came upon
the lapped car of Eric Wiley.
With the front runners going high and low to
avoid Wiley, Warner went from fourth to the
lead with an inside move through the corner.
Owen came home in second followed by
McKinney, Henson and Creek.
Creek suffered a flat tire on the final lap
ending his chances of a heat win in his
first Figure-8 race at Anderson Speedway.
For Jim Warner racing, his brother Nick’s
sweep and a win by Jerry Dane in Front Wheel
Drive Oval Division racing made it a perfect
night for the team.
