(April
5, 2014) - Jeff Shackleford took
the lead on a restart with 28 laps remaining
and survived four more restarts to win the
inaugural Winged Outlaw Figure-8 Series race
at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, April 5.
For Shackleford it was his third victory at
Anderson Speedway on Tom Raper RV Night at
the Races.
Shackleford used the inside line to take the
lead from Michael Hadley Jr. entering turn
three. On the following four restarts
Shackleford used the outside groove to hold
off Hadley.
Hadley came home in second followed by
Jeremy Vanderhoof, who recovered from two
spins, RJ Norton III and Dennis Whisman.
Fast qualifier and early leader Jacob
Garrigus was forced to take evasive action
in the cross-over to avoid a slower car and
spun in turn three bringing out the first
caution flag.
Ben Tunney, a two-time winner at Anderson
Speedway worked his way from the back of the
pack to fourth after 16 laps, but just
before a restart headed to the pit area, he
returned to action several laps down to the
leaders.
The caution flag waved when Vanderhoof spun
coming off the second turn and came to a
stop on the track on lap 17 while running
fourth.
Garrigus spun a second time on lap 36 coming
off the second corner after working his way
back up to the third position. Vanderhoof
brought out the sixth caution with a spin
entering turn one while he was running third
on lap 40.
Garrigus’s night came to an end on lap 42
when he made contact with RJ Norton Jr.
approaching turn three and came to rest
against the outside retaining wall. It also
ended Norton’s chance at a victory.
Jerry Dane climbed from the fourth position
to take the lead on lap eight from Ron
Phipps and went on to record the victory in
the Front Wheel Drive Oval Division season
opener.
Phipps took the lead from Austin McKinney on
lap three with an inside move on the front
straight.
Coming home second was Phipps, followed by
Marshall Clark, Billy Hooten and Brandon Lee
Cook.
Nick Warner took the lead in the Front Wheel
Drive Figure-8 feature with a pass of Randy
Owens entering turn one on lap five, then
avoided some contact in the cross-over to
score the win.
Early leader Kevin Henson slowed suddenly on
lap three, which gave the lead to Owens.
Following Warner to the checkers were
Elliott McKinney, Henson, Camden Creek and
Randy Hoppes.
Kenny Smith lost the lead on a restart to
Angie Goodin on lap six, but three laps
later was able to get inside of Goodin
entering turn one to claim the Super Karts
win.
Smith and Goodin opened up a comfortable
lead through the middle stages of the race
but Dustin Kares, Jason Reynolds and Michael
Goodin hooked up in a three-kart tandem to
close on the leaders with three laps
remaining.
Kares passed Angie Goodin with an outside
move on lap 19 going through turn three to
claim second followed by Goodin, Reynolds
and Michael Goodin.
Racing returns to Anderson Speedway on
Saturday, April 12 with Street Stocks, Front
Wheel Drives Oval & Figure 8's along with
Thunder Roadsters.
