Anderson Speedway ThunderCars to be Featured in HBO
Documentary
Anderson
Speedway ThunderCar racing will be the focal point of a real life documentary as
HBO Documentaries presents “Dirty Driving: ThunderCars of Indiana” this Thursday
night at 10:00 pm. Filmed on location during the 2005 racing season the
documentary focuses on the challenges and lives of several ThunderCar racers and
their teams and families as they pursued their quest for a season championship.
The film follows the teams to their workplaces, homes, race shops and the track
and chronicles their pursuit of the elusive championship title.
“HBO and DCTV productions have done a masterful job in bringing to life what
racing is and means at the grass root level of the sport”, stated Rick Dawson,
President of Anderson Speedway.” Although this is just a snapshot of a few teams
and obviously does not represent racers as a whole, the common denominator is
the sport of racing and the unique drive it instills in racers. The film will be
entertaining to all who watch it even if they are not necessarily race fans. It
can be categorized as an action film, a comedy and a real life drama all rolled
into one.”
Produced by multiple award winning producer, Jon Alpert, Dirty Driving:
ThunderCars in Indiana depicts a city which has been plagued by economics woes
and uses the Speedway as a product of history, escape and optimism for its
people. Mr. Alpert’s attention to the individual spirit and personalities is
again carefully exemplified in this film as has been his trademark on his many
award winning documentaries. The characters, situations and ensuing results are
all real which helps deliver the many messages the documentary has to offer
“The camera work and editing is as good as any I have seen in racing”, continues
Dawson. “Jon is a first class producer and I consider it an honor that he chose
Anderson for the site of this documentary. Anyone who has ever been involved in
racing will be able to relate to some part of the film. However, viewers need to
know that this is just a very small cross section of the racing community and
what they see on this film is not the way it is all the time.”
The documentary is scheduled to air Thursday, November 13th at 10:00 pm on the
HBO network. For more information on HBO, the production and DCTV visit
