Phipps Record Saturday Night Victories

Anderson Speedway returned to
racing action on Saturday, May 5 with the USAC Regional Midgets, Ford Focus
Midgets, Kenyon Midgets along with the Figure 8’s.
James Robertson, of Indianapolis, Ind., drove the Gregg Steele Midget to victory
in the 30-lap Regional Midget feature, leading the final 27 laps to beat Travis
Young, Jeremy Warren, Ricky Ehrgott and Robby Parish.
Chett Gehrke, of Broken Arrow, Okla. led all 30 laps of the Midwest/Indiana Ford
Focus feature in his Indy Performance Composites/Scooter Ellis Rentals Beast to
beat Parish, Jordan Pennington, Mario Clouser and Bill Griffith.
Kyle Hamilton, of Danville, Ind., recorded his second straight Kenyon Midget
feature win, leading the last 18 laps to win the 30-lap race over Blake
Fitzpatrick, Jason Thompson, Caleb Armstrong and Drew Charlson. Hamilton piloted
the Curtis Motor Sales/WKLU Radio Yamaha.
In the Figure 8 feature, Anderson’s Rod Phipps scored his second consecutive
victory to open the season. Ronnie Rose led the opening seven circuits with
Phipps then taking command of the field and pacing the final 18 laps. At the
finish, Nick Warner followed up ThunderCar victory the night before to place in
second position behind Phipps. Third was Josh Tharp with Rose and Ranny Hinton
completing the top-five finishers.
In the 20-lap Oval heat for the Figure 8’s, Josh Tharp flag-to-flag to score the
win over Rob Allman and Rose.
Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, May 11 with the MAX/WLBC
Friday Night Summer Series showcasing Newco Metals Legends, ThunderCars and
Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 action.
On Saturday, May 12, the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Figure 8’s, Lampco
Federal Credit Union Street Stocks, Figure 8’s and Central Indiana Mini Cups will be featured on the
world’s fastest quarter-mile oval.
