Anderson Speedway Recognizes MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series Champions

Anderson Speedway put a cap on the 2005 MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series with the Awards Banquet at Anderson’s Day’s Inn on Sunday, November 20. The Legends, Insight ThunderCar Oval and Figure 8, along with the Chappy’s Rent to Own Oval and Figure 8 divisions were honored at the Awards Banquet.

Albany’s Daniel Russell and owner Steve Russell were crowned Legends champions. Russell recorded 10 victories, 10 fast times, 11 top-five finishes and 12 top 10s during the 2005 season. He drove the No. 80 Farm & City Repair Legend during his title run.

Special Award winners in Legends were presented to John Robbins for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Mouthpiece Racing for Dedication.

Brandon Phillips captured the Insight ThunderCar Oval championship. The Anderson racer drove the No. 96 Short’s Machine Shop car to 16 top-five finishes and 19 top 10’s during his title march.

Special Award winners in Insight ThunderCar Oval were presented to Billy Riddle for Rookie of the Year, Alice Riall for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Jeff Dick for Dedication.

Terry Malone Jr. and Herb Rose were awarded the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8 championship hardware. Malone drove the Wyatt Furniture sponsored car to five wins, 16 top fives and 20 top 10s en route to the title.

Special Award winners in Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s were presented to Billy Riddle for Rookie of the Year, Paris Swallows Jr. for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Herb Rose for Dedication.

Dustin Burge was crowned Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval champion. He grabbed four checkered flags, 11 fast times, 20 top-five finishes and 23 top 10s. Burge drove the No. 63 owned by Jim Stevens with sponsorship for Surber’s Door & Windows.

Special Awards in Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval were Travis Burge for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Jim Stevens for Dedication.

Anderson’s Nick Warner and owner Jim Warner earned the inaugural Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 championship. Warner drove to nine feature wins, 22 top-five finishes and 23 top 10s en route to his first title.

Special Awards in Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s were Cale Ramey for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Randy Owen for Dedication.
