Anderson Speedway Honors 2006 Champions

Anderson Speedway held the 2006 Awards Banquet at The Military Museum in the Officer’s Club located in Anderson on Saturday Night, November 18. The Star Press Saturday Night Racing Series divisions and MAX/WLBC Summer Series divisions were honored during the awards ceremony.

Ronnie Rose was crowned Ed Martin Auto Group Super Truck driver champion and owner Herb Rose grabbed the owner championship hardware. Rose wheeled the No. 88 SuperTruck sponsored by A Total Tan to three feature wins, 12 top-five finishes and 14 top 10s.

The championship team was also awarded the Hedman Headers / Trans-Dapt Championship bonus from The Contingency Connection. They are entered in a drawing for a potential $500 shopping spree from Hedman Headers / Trans-Dapt. The Rose team also received a 50 percent discount from Five Star Race Car Bodies on a Truck A Package Body.

Special Award winners in Ed Martin Auto Group Super Trucks were presented to Brandon Phillips for Rookie of the Year, Bob Lemen for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Jerry Faucett for Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Rod Phipps and owner Dave Hacker earned their first Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stock title. The Anderson competitor collected three feature wins and 15 top-five finishes aboard the Progressive Masonry Chevrolet.

Additional awards for Hacker Racing included a 20 percent discount on a Street Stock A Package Body from Five Star Race Car Bodies. The Contingency Connection awarded Rod Phipps with the JE Pro Seal Sportsman of the Year Award.

Special Award winners in the Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks were presented to Bret Miles Jr. for Rookie of the Year, Danny Acrey for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Hacker Racing for the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Shawn Cullen and owner Herb Rose captured the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 championship. Cullen recorded one feature win, two fast times (including the current track record) and 15 top-10 performances.

Additional awards included Cullen getting a 20 percent discount on a Street Stock A Package Body from Five Star Race Car Bodies and the Performanceparts.com Season Champion Bonus from The Contingency Connection.

Special Award winners in Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s were Paris Swallows Jr. for Rookie of the Year, Ranny Hinton for the Rocky Tharp Memorial Sportsmanship and Herb Rose for Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Indianapolis’ Rodney Smith and owner Bob Smith were crowned Newco Metals Legends champions. Smith claimed five feature wins including the prestigious Grant Fritz / Greg Dietzen Memorial in September. He also posted two fast times and 18 top-five finishes.

Special Award winners in the Newco Metals Legends were presented to Jason Beigh for Rookie of the Year, Daniel Russell for Sportsmanship and John Robbins for Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Anderson’s Dustin Burge and owner Jimmy Stevens grabbed the championship hardware in the Insight ThunderCar division. Burge drove the No. 63 Surber’s Door & Windows entry to five feature wins, 18 top-five finishes and 21 top 10s en route to the championship.

Special Award winners in Insight ThunderCars were presented to Dustin Burge for Rookie of the Year and Sportsmanship and John Goforth for the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Rod Phipps and Dave Hacker earned the Insight ThunderCar Pro division title. The season highlights for Phipps included four feature wins, six fast times and 19 top-five finishers.

Special Award winners in Insight ThunderCar Pro division were presented to Brandon Leisure for Sportsmanship and Chris Portwood for the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Keith Morris and Jimmy Stevens were crowned Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval champion. Morris posted a division best eight feature wins, 12 fast times and 25 top-five finishes.

Special Awards in Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval were Jeff Wright for Sportsmanship and Jimmy Stevens for the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication.

Anderson’s Nick Warner and owner Jim Warner earned their second consecutive Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 championship. Warner drove to six feature wins, 23 top-five finishes and 24 top 10s en route to his first title.

Frank Lawton was awarded the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication Award in Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s.
