CRA Super Series Late Models Make
Final Appearance on Saturday Night

Anderson Speedway returns to racing
action on Friday, August 12, with the MAX / WLBC Friday Night Summer Series.
Featured divisions include Limited Late Models, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and
Figure 8 racing along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and
Figure 8 action.
On Saturday, August 13, don’t miss the final appearance of the CRA Super Series
Late Models in the Anderson 125 presented by Great Deals. The Terry’s RV Sales &
Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s will also be
showcased during The Star Press Saturday Night Series.
In three Limited Late Model events this season, three competitors have visited
the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle. Jon Conklin and Mike Coates recorded
feature victories in June with Todd Marsh grabbing the winning hardware on July
29.
After notching her 10th top-five finish of the Insight ThunderCar Oval season,
Alexandria’s Alice Riall returned to the point’s lead. She holds an eight-point
advantage over Anderson’s Brandon Phillips. Rookie Billy Riddle continues to
hold down the third spot, just 48 markers from the first position. Roy Grissom
Sr. and William Coffman complete the top five.
Terry Malone Jr. responded from mechanical problems last week to record his
fifth checkered flag of the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8 season. He leads Paris
Swallows Jr. by 45 points heading into this weekend’s action. Billy Riddle ranks
third with Roy Grissom Sr. and Anderson’s Robert Brumback completing the top
five.
In Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval action, Dustin Burge holds a 41
point lead on Sam Folsom after 17 events. Burge has collected three wins and 16
top-10 finishes while Folsom has four victories and 11 top fives. Most recent
winner Nick Warner ranks third with Brad Stevens and Kevin Harmon rounding out
the top five.
Earning his eighth feature win of the 2005 season, Nick Warner extended his
point’s lead in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s to 175
markers over Randy Owen. Third is the point standings is Chris Teepe with Allen
Wagner and Travis Burge filling out the top five.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
The CRA Super Series Late Models return for a final 2005 appearance on Saturday,
August 13, with the running of the Anderson 125 presented by Great Deals Coupon
Magazine. The series will be competing on the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval
for the 38th occasion. Dating back to the inaugural series event in April of
1997, the Late Model circuit has seen 21 drivers visit the Texas Roadhouse
Winner’s Circle.
Two-time champion Brian Ross has recorded eight wins with Junior
Hanley and Greenfield’s Kenny Tweedy scoring four victories while Bobby Parsley
has grabbed three checkered flags. Anderson’s Jim Cooper collected two
victories.
In last year’s final event at Anderson Speedway, Muncie’s Jim Crabtree Jr.
grabbed top honors after leading the entire distance of the 150-lap event. He
finished ahead of Bobby Parsley and Chris Gabehart.
In the eight previous fall events for the CRA Super Series, seven drivers have
scored wins. Ross is the only multiple race winner. Other drivers to earn
winning hardware include Scott Neal (1999), Kenny Tweedy (2000), Junior Hanley
(2001), Ron Breese Jr. (2002), Andy Ponstein (2003) and Crabtree (2004).
Heading into this weekend’s event, Parsley sits atop the series point’s chase
with a four point lead on Eddie Van Meter. Third is 39th Anderson 400 presented
by Great Deals winner Eddie Hoffman with Knightstown’s Jeff Lane and former
series champion Scott Hantz rounding out the top five.
Two-time defending Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock champion Rich Boyer
won the biggest event of his season when took the victory in the Terry’s RV 150
on August 6. With earning his 11th feature win of the season and mechanical
problems for his nearest challenger Rod Phipps, the points lead grew for Boyer.
After 15 events, the Anderson racer holds a 442 point margin on Phipps. Third is
Danny Acrey with Ryan Buckner and Bruce McFall rounding out the top five.
The Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 division continues to showcase a great
point’s battle. For the second consecutive week, Curtis Chapman ranks first with
a 43 point advantage on defending division champion Jeff Swinford. Third is most
recent winner Mike Riddle Jr., who trails Chapman by 57 markers. Fourth is
Michael Phipps with Ronnie Phipps filling out the top five.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $13 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
