Weekend Set for Friday and Saturday

Anderson
Speedway returns to racing action with the Insight Double Thunder Power Weekend.
On Friday, July 29, the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series will showcase
Limited Late Models, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 racing along with
Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 action.
On Saturday, July 30, The Star Press Saturday Night Series features the Insight
ThunderCar Enduro 200. The Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks and Terry’s RV Sales
& Service Street Stocks will also be showcased on the world’s fastest
quarter-mile oval.
The
Limited Late Models will make a third appearance at Anderson Speedway. In two
races held in June, Anderson’s Jon Conklin and Shirley’s Mike Coates claimed
checkered flags. Other drivers to watch on Friday night include Mike Riddle Jr.,
Jason Fullen and Wes Russell Jr.
After
producing his eighth top-five finish of the Insight ThunderCar Oval season,
Brandon Phillips extended his point lead to 18 markers over Alexandria’s Alice
Riall. Third in the points rundown is Rookie Billy Riddle, trailing first place
by 85 markers. The remainder of the top five includes Roy Grissom Sr. and
William Coffman.
In
the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s, Terry Malone Jr. and Paris Swallows continue
a close battle for the division crown. With four victories and 13 top-10
showings, Malone has constructed a 65 point lead on Swallows. Most recent winner
Billy Riddle ranks third with Roy Grissom Sr. and Robert Brumback rounding out
the top five.
Dustin
Burge returned to first position in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive
Oval point standings after scoring his third feature victory. The Anderson racer
has notched 12 top-five finishes and 14 top 10s. Sam Folsom ranks second, just
nine markers from Burge. Third is Brad Stevens with Nick Warner and Kevin Harmon
filling out the top five.
Nick
Warner continues to hold a comfortable advantage in the Chappy’s Rent to Own
Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s. He leads Randy Owen by 145 points. Allen Wagner
ranks third with Chris Teepe and last weekend’s feature winner Travis Burge
completing the top five.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
Recording
a division leading ninth top-five finish, New Castle’s Tony Broyles extended his
point’s lead to 488 markers over Indianapolis’ Robert Lemen. Third in the point
standings is Ronnie Rose, who has collected five feature wins and seven top-five
finishes. The Tim Bennett No. 14 SuperTruck that Joe Beaver has taken over ranks
fourth with Andrew Brown completing the top five.
Anderson’s
Rich Boyer sits atop the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock standings with
nine feature wins and 12 top-five finishes. Boyer holds a 268 point lead on Rod
Phipps, who scored a dramatic victory on July 23. Danny Acrey ll ranks third
with the No. 8 owned by Shelley Worley in fourth position. DT’S R Bar Rookie
Ryan Buckner rounds out the top five after collecting third place honors last
weekend.
The Insight ThunderCar Enduro will showcase up to 55 cars in the starting field
in an action-packed 200-lap format. The race is split into two 100 lap segments
with a 10 minute break allowing teams to refuel and make adjustments before the
second 100 lap portion.
The
previous two winners, Greenfield’s Phil Jenkins and Plymouth’s Carl Muffley are
among the 38 pre-entries. Other notables to keep your eye on include Boss Hogg
Catering & Jerky Figure 8 competitors Rod Phipps, Curtis Chapman, Ranny Hinton,
Mark Goettman, Ronnie Phipps, Herb Rose and Ronnie Rose. Terry’s RV Sales &
Street Stock racer Randy Hoppes, Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck Rookie Josh
Poore along with ThunderCar drivers Billy Riddle and last year’s front runners
Jack Taylor and Tim Brown will also be drivers to watch. Plus many more in this
event you can’t afford to miss.
