Crown Set
for Saturday Night

Anderson Speedway returns to racing action with the MAX/WLBC Listener
Appreciation Weekend. On Friday, July 22, the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer
Series will showcase Legends, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 racing
along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive in Oval and Figure 8 action.
On Saturday, July 23, The Star Press Saturday Night Series features the 56th
Best Way Disposal National Crown with the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s.
The Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks and Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street
Stocks will also be showcased on the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval.
In
Legends action, T.J. Sneva holds a slim six-point advantage over Daniel Russell
heading into this weekend’s action. Sneva has produced a consistent season with
six top-five finishes and eight top 10s while Russell has collected seven
feature victories in eight events. Third in the standings is John Robbins with
Camby’s Scott McGinley and former division champion Eric Black completing the
top five.
Brandon
Phillips took over first position in the Insight ThunderCar Oval division after
recording a third-place finish on July 15. Phillips leads previous point leader
Billy Riddle by 13 markers. Third in the points rundown is Alice Riall with Roy
Grissom Sr. and William Coffman rounding out the top five.
Driving
the Herb Rose entry, Terry Malone Jr. continues on his goal of the Insight
ThunderCar Figure 8 championship. After 13 events, Malone has constructed a 70
point margin on Paris Swallows Jr. Both Malone and Swallows have produced four
feature victories during the 2005 season. Third in the point standings is Billy
Riddle with Roy Grissom Sr. in fourth position and Robert Brumback ranking
fifth.
Sam
Folsom extended his point’s lead in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive
Oval division to 34 markers over Dustin Burge. Folsom has scored four checkered
flags and 13 top 10s while Burge has racked up two wins and 11 top fives. Brad
Stevens ranks third with Nick Warner and Kevin Harmon filling out the top five.
Winning
his seventh Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 event of the season
helped Nick Warner expand his point’s lead to 135 markers over Randy Owen. Third
is Allen Wagner with three-time feature winner Chris Teepe fourth and Travis
Burge holding down the fifth spot.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
The
most treasured checkered flag in Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 racing will
take place on Saturday, July 23, when the 56th Best Way Disposal National Crown
will be featured at Anderson Speedway. The event is the nation’s oldest
continuous stock car race.
Heading into the 56th running of the National Crown, the battle for the
championship in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 division continues to
tighten up. After recording a second feature of the season, Curtis Chapman moved
within two points of current leader Jeff Swinford. Third is Mike Riddle Jr. with
Michael Phipps ranking fourth and Ronnie Phipps completing the top five.
New
Castle’s Tony Broyles holds a 445 point lead in the Ed Martin Auto Group
SuperTrucks. After nine events, Broyles has produced one victory, eight top-five
finishes and nine top 10s. Second in the standings is Bob Lemen with most recent
winner Ronnie Rose ranked in third spot. The No. 14 SuperTruck owned by Tim
Bennett is fourth with Scott Brooks rounding out the top five.
Nine
feature victories and 12 consecutive top-five finishes have allowed Rich Boyer
to build a 300 point lead over Rod Phipps in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service
Street Stocks. Phipps has visited the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle on two
occasions and has also posted 11 top fives. Third is Danny Acrey ll with Curtis
Chapman and Ryan Buckner filling out the top five.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
