The new format of the Anderson 400 presented by Great Deals featured the CRA
Super Series in a 250-lap showdown and the CRA Street Stocks in a 150-lap event
on Saturday, July 15 at Anderson Speedway. Jeff Lane earned the win the 250-lap
CRA Super Series event with Rich Boyer grabbing the winning hardware in the CRA
Street Stocks feature.
In the CRA Super Series event, Lane turned in a dominant performance in the
second half of Anderson 250 presented by Great Deals to score the victory. Lane
was fourth after the first 125 laps when a 10-minute break allowed teams to make
adjustments prior to the final leg. An inversion of the top five put Lane second
to start the second half of the race.
Lane took the lead on the restart, only to see St. John pass him for leadership
honors in slower traffic on Lap 156. Lane then returned the favor in similar
fashion nine laps later in the 4th turn and on the front stretch. In the closing
stages, Lane was able to pull away from his closest challengers.
St. John and Hantz battled for runner-up honors in the closing stages with St.
John holding on for second position and Hantz in third. Greenfield’s Kenny
Tweedy and Tom Hernly Jr. of Lansing, Mich., rounded out the top five. They both
charged from the back of the field to grab top-five performances.
Anderson’s Rich Boyer has enjoyed tremendous success on the World’s Fastest
Quarter Mile Oval, and that continued as he won the 150-lap CRA Street Stock
feature. Boyer took over the point on the 28th lap and held it for the remainder
of the race that included a number of caution periods, including a crash by a
slower car into the turn three barrels on the final lap that led to a
green/white/checkered finish.
Current Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stock point leader Rod Phipps
appeared out of contention early but worked his way back into the top five by
the 110th lap. He ended up second, but not without controversy as he and
Greenfield’s Phil Jenkins tangled in turn four on the final lap. Jenkins hit the
wall and Phipps took over the runner-up slot. Early racer leader Brian Hopkins,
Greensboro’s Chuck Cook and Jenkins completed the top five.
Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, July 21, with the MAX/WLBC
Friday Night Summer Series showcasing American Awards Legends, Insight
ThunderCars, Pro ThunderCars and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval
and Figure 8 action.
On Saturday, July 22, the Best Way Disposal National Crown presented by Anderson
Sign and Banner will showcase the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s. The
Star Press Saturday Night Series will also feature Ed Martin Auto Group
SuperTrucks and Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks.
