The return of the USA Modifieds for the Ed Martin Auto Group 75 highlighted racing during The Star Press Saturday Night Racing Series at Anderson Speedway on July 1. The Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks and the American Awards Legends completed the racing card on a warm, humid Saturday night at the World’s Fastest Quarter-Mile Oval.

In USA Modified Tour feature, Greenfield’s Damon Breedlove took the lead from the pole and never looked back in the Ed Martin Auto Group 75 to enter the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winner’s Circle. Breedlove withstood a constant challenge from Michigan’s Bob Curry over the final 60 laps, with Brian Nester and Brent Hook also applying pressure during the later stages of the race. Brad Springer rounded out the top five.

Breedlove won the six-lap USA Modified Dash. Scott Coe took the 10-lap heat and Don Skaggs won the 10-lap “B” main. Springer paced qualifying with a time of 12.790 seconds at 70.367 mph.

New Castle’s Danny Acrey II scored his first feature win of the season in the Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks. Acrey inherited first position when Anderson’s Mike Riddle Jr. and Markleville’s Abe Puckett tangled in turn 1 while battling for the lead on the 13th of 30 laps. Both drivers were relegated to the tail of the field. Acrey then held off Lapel’s Dennis Moser, Muncie’s Bret Miles Jr., and a hard-charging Rod Phipps for the win. Markleville’s Randy Hoppes completed the top five.

Ryan Buckner took the checkered in the first Lampco FCU Street Stock heat while Willy DeHart visited the O’Reilly Winner’s Circle in the second heat. Phipps paced qualifying with a time of 14.296 seconds.

Defending champion Daniel Russell picked up his third feature win of the season in the American Awards Legends. Russell, who led qualifying with a time of 14.061 seconds, had to start in the middle of the field after a half-inversion of the starting lineup.

Russell made his way up to fifth by the 10th lap and advanced to third by the 16th circuit. He then took the lead on the 23rd lap with a front stretch pass on Rodney Smith. Making a late-race pass on Smith, Greenfield’s Paul Holden grabbed runner-up honors. Smith, Scooter Way and Tommy Jordan completed the top-five finishers.

Smith won the first American Awards Legends heat, while Clark Dietzen picked up his first heat win of the season in the second preliminary event.
