Two last-lap passes and a charge to the front thrilled fans at Anderson Speedway during The Star press Saturday Night Series on June 18. It was the final night of the Boss Hogg Pitt BBQ and Catering Hogg Wild Fun Weekend.

New Castle’s Tony Broyles scored his first Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck feature win of the year in exciting fashion. He has built a comfortable lead in the points chase this season despite not winning a race before Saturday night. Broyles was able to pass Anderson’s Jake Owens in the first turn on the final lap after Owens went high out of the groove.

Yorktown’s Andrew Brown also passed Owens and ended up second. Owens, Brownsburg’s Steve Blair and Anderson’s Josh Poore rounded out the top five.

Andrew Brown won the first Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck heat race while Brownsburg’s Joe Warfield Jr. took top honors in the second heat. Josh Burton paced qualifying with a time of 13.655 seconds and drew a full inversion to start the feature. However, Burton got caught up in a crash on the 17th lap with Warfield and Robert Lemen and had to retire for the night.

Two-time defending champion Rich Boyer continued his dominance in the Terry’s RV Sales and Service Street Stocks with another charge through the pack. Boyer passed Anderson’s Curtis Chapman on the 27th of 30 laps after progressively working his way up through the field.

Boyer was able to use the high side all night and did it again when he passed Chapman in the second turn. At the checkers, Chapman grabbed runner-up honors followed by New Castle’s Danny Acrey II, Markleville’s Randy Hoppes and Anderson’s Rod Phipps.

Dennis Moser was victorious in the first street stock heat, while Chris Blair captured the checkered flag in the second heat. Boyer was the top qualifier with a time of 13.879 seconds on the world’s fastest quarter mile oval.

Ronnie Rose used a last-lap charge to win his fifth Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 feature of the season. Anderson’s Mike Riddle Jr. appeared to have a comfortable lead in the later stages of the 20-lap race after emerging from an early battle with Shawn Cullen. Riddle got caught up in crossover traffic on the last lap, however, allowing Rose to surge to Riddle’s right and edge him at the finish line.

Cullen drove to a third-place finish with Chapman and Ronnie Phipps rounding out the top-five performers.

Rob Allman won the first Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 heat race, while fellow current point leader Jeff Swinford took top honors in the second heat. Riddle led qualifying with a time of 20.501 seconds and drew a straight-up start for the feature, allowing him to start from the pole.

Anderson Speedway returns to racing action with the Texas Roadhouse Racing Through the Night Weekend. On Friday, June 24, the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series will feature Limited Late Models, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives on the Oval and Figure 8.

On Saturday Night, June 25, The Star Press Saturday Night Series will showcase the first appearance of the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series. The Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s will also be featured on the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval.
