It was a night of first-time
winners during the final night of the Boss Hogg Pitt BBQ & Catering Hogg Wild
Fun Weekend at Anderson Speedway on June 17. Ric Pfeifer was victorious in the
Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks with Bret Miles Jr. scoring the Lampco Federal
Credit Union Street Stocks feature and Shawn Cullen picking up the action-packed
Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 main event.
Danville’s Ric Pfeifer scored his first win of the year in the Ed Martin
SuperTruck feature. Pfeifer led flag-to-flag to enter the O’Reilly Auto Parts
Winner’s Circle. New Castle’s Mark Jones maintained second throughout to finish
runner-up.
The best racing of the 40-lap feature was for third place. Noblesville’s Joe
Beaver emerged from a tight battle with Ronnie Rose, Josh Burton and Josh Poore
to grab third place at the checkers. Beaver wasn’t able to catch up with the
leaders as the race ended up being caution free. Poore and Rose completed the
top five.
Rose took the checkered flag in the first heat while Pfeifer took the win in the
second heat. Beaver led qualifying with a time of 13.825 seconds.
A dandy four-car battle made for an exciting feature in the Lampco Federal
Credit Union Street Stocks. Muncie’s Bret Miles Jr., a rookie in the division
this year, passed Anderson’s Mike Riddle Jr. when Riddle slid high in turn 2 on
the 28th of 30 circuits. Three-time division champion Rich Boyer, vaulted from
the back of the pack to finish in third spot. Point’s leader Rod Phipps, who
also charged from the back of the field, placed fourth with Doug Riddle filling
out the top-five finishers.
Mike Riddle Jr. won the first Street Stock heat while John Lundy visited the
O’Reilly Auto Parts Winner’s Circle in the second heat. Phipps paced qualifying
with a time of 14.303 seconds.
The Star Press Racing Series concluded with a wild Boss Hogg Catering and Jerky
Figure 8 feature. Middletown’s Elliott McKinney, who was going for his third
consecutive victory, led 19 of the 20 laps, but saw his advantage go away during
a two-car collision that brought out the red flag one lap from the end.
While battling side-by-side for third position through the cross-over, Ronnie
Rose and Josh Tharp made contact and then both hammered the outside wall, ending
the racing for both front runners.
When the caution flag waved, McKinney experienced damage to the rear of his car.
He went to the pit area for repairs, handing the first position to Shawn Cullen,
who held off a hard-charging Rob Allman on the final restart to grab his first
division victory. Rookie Paris Swallows Jr., McKinney and Anderson’s Michael
Phipps rounded out the top five.
Allman took the checkered flag in the first figure 8 heat. Michael Phipps was
victorious in the second heat. Rose led qualifying with a time of 19.272
seconds.
