Yellow Book Weekend at the Races
Set For
May 13-14

Anderson Speedway returns to racing
action this weekend with the Yellow Book Weekend at the Races. The MAX / WLBC
Friday Night Summer Series will be featured on May 13, featuring the Limited
Late Models, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action along with Chappy’s
Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.
The Yellow Book Weekend at the Races concludes with The Star Press Saturday
Night Series on May 14, showcasing Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Terry’s RV
Sales & Service Street Stocks, Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s and
Legends.
The
Limited Late Models will make their first appearance of the season with 2003
division champion Mike Riddle Jr. expected to be one of the drivers to beat.
Others to watch include Todd Marsh, Jon Conklin, Jason Fullen and Mike Coates.
William
Coffman sits atop the Insight ThunderCar Oval points tally, after claiming top
honors on May 6. Alexandria’s Alice Riall ranks second after producing two
top-three finishes. She trails Coffman by 22 markers. Roy Grissom Sr. has rose
to third spot with A.J. Jones and Robert Brumback completing the top five.
Anderson’s Paris Swallows Jr. continues to pace the Insight ThunderCar Figure
8’s with an 11 point lead on Mike Peters. Third is Robert Brumback with May 6
feature winner Terry Malone Jr. holding the fourth spot. Billy Riddle rounds out
the top five performers after three events.
Dustin
Burge has a nine point cushion in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive
Oval division. Three top five finishes have placed him in first position. Early
season winner Kreigh Leever is second with Nick Warner, Sam Folsom and Travis
Erhart filling out the top five.
After a dramatic victory in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure
8’s, Warner extended his points lead to 30 markers over Mt. Summit’s Keith
Morris. The remainder of the top five includes Allen Wagner, Jeffrey Reichardt
and Randy Owen.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
Consistent
finishes in each of the three feature events has allowed New Castle’s Tony
Broyles to rank first in the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck point standings. He
has constructed a 130 point lead on Robert Lemen. First-year driver Tom Miller
ranks third, just three markers behind Lemen. Fourth is Mike Mendenhall with
Steve Blair in fifth position.
Joe
Beaver drove in place of Rich Boyer last weekend in the Terry’s RV Sales &
Service Street Stocks and scored the fourth victory for the No. 33 car. The Rich
Boyer owned team widened the gap to 136 markers over Rod Phipps in the title
chase. Third is Curtis Chapman with veteran Bruce McFall and the Danny Acrey
owned No. 73 driven by Ronnie Phipps the last two weeks completing the top five.
Close
competition is taking place in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s, with
defending champion Jeff Swinford leading the standings. Second is Rod Phipps, 19
markers behind Swinford. Three top-five finishes have placed Ronnie Phipps third
with Michael Phipps and Jason Pitts rounding out the top five.
Two
early season feature victories have propelled Daniel Russell to first position
in the Legend point standings. He holds a 17 point-margin on Elwood’s John
Robbins. Third is Scott McGinley, who has begun the season with back-to-back
top-five finishes. T.J. Sneva is fourth with Eric Black rounding out the top
five.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
