MAX / WLBC Summer Series Debuts
Friday, Super Late Models Saturday Night

Anderson Speedway returns to racing
action this weekend with the debut of the MAX / WLBC Friday Night Summer on May
6, featuring the Legends, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action along
with Chappy’s Rent to own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.
The weekend concludes with the return of the Super Late Models joined by the
Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s
during The Star Press Saturday Night Series on May 7.
Elwood’s
John Robbins started the Legend season on a strong note on April 30 in his quest
to capture the division championship, finishing fourth in the feature and
collecting fast time honors. He holds a single point advantage on last
Saturday’s feature winner Daniel Russell. The remainder of the top five includes
Scott McGinley, T.J. Sneva and former champion Eric Black.
A.J.
Jones sits atop the Insight ThunderCar Oval point standings with a two point
lead on opening night winner Alice Riall. Anderson’s William Coffman ranks third
with Robert Brumback and Tom Tacket completing the top five.
After one event in the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s, Mike Peters is one point
ahead of Paris Swallows Jr., who recorded the feature win on April 10. Brumback,
Roy Ellis and Darryl Rogers round out the top five.
Two
top-five finishes have propelled Dustin Burge to first place in the Chappy’s
Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval points rundown. He leads early season-winner
Kreigh Leever by 10 markers. Anderson’s Sam Folsom is third with Travis Erhart
fourth and Nick Warner fifth.
Warner leads the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s after driving
to his first feature checkered flag on April 9. Randy Owen ranks second with the
other top contenders being Keith Morris, Jeffrey Reichardt and David Baker.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under
get in free.
The Super Late Models return to Anderson Speedway on Saturday Night with many of
the drivers making their second appearance after competing with the CRA Super
Series Late Models on April 16.
Bobby
Parsley, of Shepherdsville, Ky., will be one of the drivers to watch this
weekend in the 50-lap event. He earned the April victory, his third checkered
flag at the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval. Parsley also captured the 2003
Anderson 400 win and is a former champion with the CRA Super Series.
Daleville’s Bull Baker is also expected to compete this weekend. He is a former
Street Stock Champion and earned the checkered flag in the 2001 Anderson 400.
Baker was one of the main challengers in the CRA event last month.
Indianapolis racer Eddie Van Meter, who placed second in the CRA opener, will
also be racing with the Super Late Models. Other drivers to watch will be
Greenfield’s Kenny Tweedy, Knightstown’s Jeff Lane and Muncie’s Jim Crabtree Jr.
Scoring
his third feature victory in the opening four events, two-time defending
champion Rich Boyer extended his point lead to 124 markers over Rod Phipps in
the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks. Third is Curtis Chapman with Bruce
McFall and Ronnie Phipps, who was filling in for Danny Acrey ll rounding out the
top five.
The Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s will also compete during The Star Press
Saturday Night Series at Anderson Speedway.
