Anderson Speedway returns to racing action this weekend with the debut of the MAX / WLBC Friday Night Summer on May 6, featuring the Legends, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action along with Chappy’s Rent to own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.

The weekend concludes with the return of the Super Late Models joined by the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s during The Star Press Saturday Night Series on May 7.

Elwood’s John Robbins started the Legend season on a strong note on April 30 in his quest to capture the division championship, finishing fourth in the feature and collecting fast time honors. He holds a single point advantage on last Saturday’s feature winner Daniel Russell. The remainder of the top five includes Scott McGinley, T.J. Sneva and former champion Eric Black.

A.J. Jones sits atop the Insight ThunderCar Oval point standings with a two point lead on opening night winner Alice Riall. Anderson’s William Coffman ranks third with Robert Brumback and Tom Tacket completing the top five.

After one event in the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s, Mike Peters is one point ahead of Paris Swallows Jr., who recorded the feature win on April 10. Brumback, Roy Ellis and Darryl Rogers round out the top five.

Two top-five finishes have propelled Dustin Burge to first place in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval points rundown. He leads early season-winner Kreigh Leever by 10 markers. Anderson’s Sam Folsom is third with Travis Erhart fourth and Nick Warner fifth.

Warner leads the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s after driving to his first feature checkered flag on April 9. Randy Owen ranks second with the other top contenders being Keith Morris, Jeffrey Reichardt and David Baker.

On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.

The Super Late Models return to Anderson Speedway on Saturday Night with many of the drivers making their second appearance after competing with the CRA Super Series Late Models on April 16.

Bobby Parsley, of Shepherdsville, Ky., will be one of the drivers to watch this weekend in the 50-lap event. He earned the April victory, his third checkered flag at the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval. Parsley also captured the 2003 Anderson 400 win and is a former champion with the CRA Super Series.

Daleville’s Bull Baker is also expected to compete this weekend. He is a former Street Stock Champion and earned the checkered flag in the 2001 Anderson 400. Baker was one of the main challengers in the CRA event last month.

Indianapolis racer Eddie Van Meter, who placed second in the CRA opener, will also be racing with the Super Late Models. Other drivers to watch will be Greenfield’s Kenny Tweedy, Knightstown’s Jeff Lane and Muncie’s Jim Crabtree Jr.

Scoring his third feature victory in the opening four events, two-time defending champion Rich Boyer extended his point lead to 124 markers over Rod Phipps in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks. Third is Curtis Chapman with Bruce McFall and Ronnie Phipps, who was filling in for Danny Acrey ll rounding out the top five.

The Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s will also compete during The Star Press Saturday Night Series at Anderson Speedway.
