(September
14,
2013) - Once Jeff Marcum got the
lead in the Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late
Model Sportsman feature he pulled away to
his second win of the year Saturday,
September 14 at Anderson Speedway.
K.C. Spillers led the opening 15 laps of the
50-lap feature on Hoosier Park Racing &
Casino Night at the Races. But on a restart
on lap 16 Marcum used the high line to get
past Spillers for the lead.
With Spillers battling with fast qualifier
J.J. Haley, Chris Hacker, Danny Trent and
Mark Lambert for the second spot, Marcum was
able to open a comfortable lead.
Spillers held on for the second spot
followed by Haley, Lambert and Hacker.
It was Marcum’s first feature win with the
CRA Late Model Sportsman Series. For
Spillers it was the fifth time he has
finished second in races at Anderson
Speedway in 2013.
The 50-lap feature was slowed only twice by
caution flags, both times for single car
incidents.
A year ago Jimmy Kirby won the CRA and
Anderson Speedway Street Stock
championships, but this year has been a
different story as he recorded his first
feature win of the year.
Kirby used a restart on lap 14 to drive
around the outside of Tyler Marsh on the
front straight. He then survived five more
restarts to record the victory.
Fast qualifier Calvin Parham passed Dustin
Burge with 17 laps remaining to claim the
second position with Burge coming home in
third. Jim Crabtree Jr. recovered from a
flat tire on lap 14 to drive to a
fourth-place finish with Ricky Tharp coming
home in fifth.
Marsh ran in the second spot until he spun
in turn four on lap 33 bringing out the
fourth of five caution flags. Marsh was
credited with a seventh place finish.
Cordy Horn recorded his first career win at
Anderson Speedway in the USSA Kenyon Midget
Series feature leading the entire distance.
Horn started on the pole position thanks to
the four-car inversion with Grant Galloway
chasing him for most of the race. Galloway
was passed by fast qualifier Spence Bayston
coming off the fourth corner on the final
lap to claim the second spot.
Galloway finished third followed by Cole
Fehr and Jessica Bean.
Racing action returns to Anderson Speedway
on Saturday, September 21 with USSA Sprint
Car Challenge Series, WMDH ThunderCars, IOFS
Compact Figure 8's, IOFS Super Karts.
Bicycle races for Kids will also be part of
the program.
