By Ken de la Bastide
(August 5,
2013) - James Edsel recorded his
second Thunder Roadster feature win of the
year and first since April by a comfortable
margin over John Robbins.
It was only Edsel’s
second appearance of the year at Anderson
Speedway.
Edsel, who was the fast
qualifier, was never challenged after the
opening laps to record the victory.
Robbins fell right
behind Edsel at the start and for the first
half of the
race could keep the leader in his sights.
Behind the two front
runners Darrell Brown and Chris Weddel
slipped past Marty Griffin as a large group
of cars jockeyed for position throughout the
25-lap feature.
Weddel got inside of
Brown on lap 18 entering turn one and on lap
20
passed Nate Shrout with an inside move
exiting the second corner.
Meanwhile Brown faded over the final
circuits.
Chasing Edsel and
Robbins to the checkers were Doug Dugger
followed by Weddel and Shrout.
“We had a rough time
getting the car set-up earlier in the
night,” Edsel
said of his winning ride.
Robbins won the first
heat race by making an inside pass of
Griffin
entering turn three on the eighth of the ten
circuits. Edsel followed
Robbins pass of Griffin a lap later entering
turn one. Dugger passed
Griffin on the final lap going down the back
straight.
Robbins recorded the
victory followed by Edsel, Dugger and
Griffin in the
dash for the fast qualifiers.
Brown led the entire
distance in the second heat race followed on
the
first lap by Josh Tharp, who quickly faded
to fifth by the halfway point.
Tharp was running the outside line.
Weddel was running
second when he was black-flagged on lap nine
for
running faster than his qualifying time.
Brown led Shrout, Dave
Lobbia, Tharp and Chase Lane to the
checkers.
