(August 5,
2013) - Jerry Dane made it three
feature wins in a row and six this season in
the Front Wheel Drive Oval Division leading
the entire distance during Murat Shrine
night at the races.
Dane set fast time, won
a heat race and the feature for the second
time this year.
With the starting
line-up based on qualifications, Dane and
Paul Phipps shared the front row.
Dane jumped into the
lead at the start but was unable to shake
the car of Phipps, who stayed within
striking distance of the lead. Phipps got
his chance for the win on the final lap when
Dane encountered a slower car on the back
straight. Dane elected to go high while
Phipps went low, splitting the lapped car.
Dane was able to maintain his momentum and
maintained the lead entering turn three.
Kamden Creek, Marshall
Clark Jr. and point leader Elliott McKinney
rounded out the top five.
McKinney was running
eighth after the first lap and the recovered
to score a top five finish as the point
chase continues to heat up with Phipps and
Dane.
“He (Phipps) was much
quicker this week,” Dane said of his closest
competitor following the win. “On the last
lap I just didn’t want to
wreck.”
In the first of two heat
races, Kamden Creek took the lead at the
start
followed by Mike Alley, Dane, Clark and
Phipps.
By the end of the third
lap Dane was on the point by making an
outside
pass of Alley and then an inside pass of
Creek entering the first corner.
Phipps used the low
groove entering turn three on lap five to
pass Creek.
Dane picked up the win
followed by Phipps, Creek, Elliott McKinney
and Clark.
Jesse Thomas recorded
his fourth heat win of the year in the
second
preliminary race followed to the checkers by
Austin McKinney, Dylan
Hoppes, in a new car, Jeremy Allen and
Johnny Davis Jr.
