Chapman Returns to WMDH ThunderCars Winner's Circle

By Ken de la Bastide

(July 29, 2013) - After having his winning streak snapped at six in the WMDH Thunder Car division, Curtis Chapman started work on a new one.

Chapman, starting from the pole position, was able to lead all 25 laps but was dogged the entire distance by Rob Allman.

With the lead secured and Allman battling with Trent Gossar for the second spot, Chapman saw his advantage erased when the race’s only caution flag waved on lap 15 when Nick Lewis came to a stop on the back straight following a spin.

On the restart Allman was able to run with Chapman on the outside for a
couple of laps before Chapman pulled away.

Gossar repeatedly attempted to perform a bump and run move on Allman over the final ten laps. Several times Allman got loose coming off the corners but was able to maintain the position.

Gossar finished third followed by Jeff Hopkins and Austin Russell.

It was Chapman’s seventh win in eight races this season as he looks to
claim the track championship.

Fast qualifier Tom Gossar completed only one lap with a cracked torque
converter.

Chapman held off Allman in the heat race to win by .215-seconds with Trent Gossar finishing third.

Gossar was running fifth after the opening lap but passed Russell on lap two with an outside power move coming off the second corner and on lap four used the low groove to pass Hopkins in turn three.
