(July
29,
2013) - In one of the most dramatic
finishes of the season at Anderson Speedway,
Kevin Henson claimed the Front Wheel Drive
Figure-8 feature win by inches.
Henson charged back over
the final four laps of the feature event,
following a partial spin coming off the
fourth corner, to nip Elliott
McKinney at the finish line by .03-seconds.
McKinney took the early
lead chased by Nick Warner, Henson, Mike
Alley and Donnie Ellis Jr. in tight racing
among the front runners. Ellis got loose and
was passed by both Mark Allman and Randy
Hoppes on the front straight.
Warner’s night came to
an abrupt end on the fourth lap when it
appeared he cut down a left front tire and
made heavy contact with the turn three wall.
Ellis started his climb
to the front following the restart passing
both
Hoppes and a slowing Allman on successive
laps.
The drama started on lap
11 when Henson attempted to make a pass of
McKinney coming off the fourth corner and
got the car sideways.
That allowed Alley to
streak pass.
A lap later Henson
passed Alley on the back straight and
started closing on McKinney.
Coming off the fourth
corner on the final lap McKinney and Henson
were running side by side. McKinney got into
the grass near the cross-over which was the
opportunity Henson needed to claim his fifth
win of the year.
Following Henson and
McKinney to the checkers were Alley, Ellis
and
Hoppes.
“I just ran as hard as I
could,” Henson said following the win.
McKinney got the win in
the heat race by passing Warner on the back
straight. Warner faded over the next two
laps losing positions to Henson and Alley.
Following McKinney to
the checkers were Henson, Alley, Warner and
Jamie Valentine.
