(July
7,
2013) - Elliott McKinney
scored his second win of the year in Front
Wheel Drive Oval action, turning back a
challenge from Jerry Dane on lap 11.
The feature race was
filled with plenty of action on Herald
Bulletin night at Anderson Speedway.
McKinney took the lead
from Trevin Henson on lap eight with an
inside move coming off the fourth corner and
on the front straight.
Dane, the fast qualifier
started sixth in the field, moved into the
second spot at the halfway mark with an
inside pass of Henson entering turn one.
On the next circuit,
Dane attempted to get underneath McKinney in
turn three and instead of taking the lead
did a half-spin in the infield,
losing three positions in the process.
After closing on the
second through fourth running cars, Dane
started
moving back to the front of the field. He
passed Marshall Clark Jr. on lap 16 exiting
the second turn and on the next circuit
passed Paul Phipps entering turn one and
Henson in turn three.
McKinney won by
1.8-seconds over Dane with Clark making a
late charge to finish third followed by
Phipps and Tim Nickerson.
It was a good night for
McKinney as he picked up his first heat race
win of the year by passing Brian McKinney
with an inside pass on the back straight.
The lone caution flag
waved on lap three when Dane and Brian
McKinney spun in turn three collecting the
car of Clark.
McKinney went on to win
by .8-seconds over Dane with Phipps coming
home in third.
Kamden Creek joined the
list of first time winners in 2013 when he
inherited the lead when Jesse Thomas was
black-flagged for running a half-second
faster than his qualifying time.
With Creek in the lead
Austin McKinney and Dylan Hoppes swapped the
third position three times in three laps
with Nickerson claiming the second spot on
the last lap with a pass of McKinney on the
back straight.
Following Creek and
Nickerson to the checkers were A. McKinney,
Hoppes and Adam Lee.
