Story by Ken de la Bastide
(April 27,
2013) - Dustin Burge used a power
move on lap 63 passing Danny Smith coming
off the fourth corner to win the Max Classic
Rock CRA Street Stock 75.
Right after Burge used the outside pass to
grab the lead, early leader Robert Amos spun
in turn two bringing out the eighth caution
flag of the race at Anderson Speedway on
Saturday.
At the same time Jimmy Kirby lost a
transmission and dumped fluid on the track.
During the drying process, the rain that
threatened all night arrived.
Burge scored the win followed by Smith and
Josh Myers, who started 13th in the 26-car
field. Eddie Wolf and Robert Amos rounded
out the top-five finishers.
It was Burge’s first CRA win.
“We’ve been in the hunt, but didn’t have any
luck,” Burge smiled. “It was perfect timing
tonight with the rain coming.”
Smith said he ran the last 25 laps without
brakes.
“I wasn’t going to give him the bottom,” he
said. “I just drifted through the corner and
when he went to the outside there was
nothing I could do.”
Myers was disappointed that the rain
shortened the race by 12 laps.
Amos took the lead at the start chased by
Bret Miles Jr. and Smith.
Smith took advantage of a restart to pass
Amos with an outside pass entering turn one
and led until lap 63.
On lap 16 Colby Lane was knocked out of the
fourth position when Rick Segvich spun in
turn two and Lane went high to avoid the
incident and bounced off the outside
retaining wall.
Fast qualifier Calvin Parham slowed on lap
19 while running fifth and on lap 28 the
caution flag waved when Dave Bice spun in
turn two while running in the top ten.
Following the seventh caution on lap 50,
Amos lost four positions over the next two
laps as he was pinned on the outside.
