(April 21,
2013) - A tight battle for
the win in the return of the Top Speed
Modifeds to Anderson Speedway ended in last
lap fireworks that determined the outcome.
Scott Coe and Brian Nester were the two
fastest qualifiers and both used the outside
line to move from the third row to the top
two positions after eight circuits Madison
County Storm Water Quality Night.
Several times Nester attempted to bump Coe
out of the low groove to no avail. Nester
only looked outside of Coe one time.
With the battle for third in front of the
two leaders with three laps remaining things
got dicey for Coe.
Coming off the second corner on the final
lap, Coe was forced to slow behind third
place running Jerry Hammond. With Coe
checking up Nester got into his rear bumper,
sending both cars sliding.
Entering turn three it appeared Coe, who
somehow held onto the lead, had a left rear
tire going down and spun. He collected the
cars of Hammond and Herb Johnson Jr.
Nester snuck underneath the carnage to score
the win followed by Tim Burkett, the only
other driver credited with completing 50
laps. Coe came home third followed by Chris
Jennings and Mark Bott.
“I admit I got into Scott and backed off,”
Nester said. “We both got sideways on the
back straight.”
Coe and Nester were the class of the field,
pulling away to a sizeable lead over the
third place battle between Hammond, Jennings
and Johnson.
The three drivers battling for the third
spot played their own game of cat and mouse
for most of the race with everyone waiting
for the other driver to make a mistake.
