(April 15,
2013) - Spencer Bayston got off to
an incredible start to his rookie season
with the Mel Kenyon Midget series.
Bayston set quick time during
qualifications, won his heat race and then
recorded his first feature win in only his
fifth career start at Anderson Speedway on
Sunday.
Bayston slipped inside of Jessica Bean
entering turn three to take the lead with 11
laps remaining and went on to record the
victory.
Alexandria’s Clayton Gaines, who recorded
his first ever win in a heat race, led the
first 14 laps until Bean and Bayston got
inside coming off the second corner.
As took place in his heat race, Bean and
Bayston set the pace. Bayston challenged
Bean several times before making the pass
for the victory.
Bayston won by 4.5 seconds followed by Bean,
Travis Young (2012 champion), Cordy Horn and
Gaines.
“I just ran a good line,” Bayston said. “I’m
very happy.”
In the first heat race, Bean took the early
lead chased by Kent Kriegbaum and Bayston.
Bayston passed Kriegbaum on the second
circuit with an outside pass coming off turn
two. On the final lap, Bayston was able to
pass Bean with an inside move coming off the
second corner to get the win.
Bean finished second followed by Kriegbaum.
Gaines led the entire distance in the second
heat race to get his first career win with
the Mel Kenyon Midget series.
He was followed by Young and Horn.
Bayston set fast time with a lap of
12.98-seconds around the quarter-mile high
banked oval. Young was second quick at
13.16-seconds with Bean recording the third
fast time at 13.21-seconds.
