Rose Gets Three Peat; Poore Locks Up MEP Late Model Title
By Ken de la Bastide
(September
24, 2012) – While Ronnie Rose was celebrating his third
consecutive win in McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models at Anderson
Speedway, Josh Poore was relishing the championship.
Rose has won the last two MEP Late Model features and in between sandwiched
a victory in the final appearance of the CRA Top Speed Fabrication Sportsman
Late Models.
With the field starting straight-up based on qualifying, Rose started on the
pole position and never faltered leading all 40 laps for the win.
Behind Rose Jeff Marcum and Poore stayed in close contact the entire
distance with the leader, but Rose never strayed from his racing line.
That’s the way the three took the checkers with Jeff Williams and Rob Allman
rounding out the top five.
Williams, started seventh in the field, and used the outside line to move up
to the fourth spot by the halfway point, but without a caution period, he
was unable to close on the three leaders.
Williams used the high line on lap seven to pass Brandon Phillips to move
into the fifth position on the front straight and seven circuits later went
outside of Allman entering turn three to claim fourth.
Poore dedicated his championship season to his grandfather, Leonard Poore,
who passed away on Friday. Poore claimed the title despite not winning a
feature race during the year.
Rob Allman won his third PGG Dash for cash for the fastest qualifers in the
division.
Williams scored his third heat win of the year in the first heat passing
Randy Hoppes with an outside pass on lap three coming off the fourth corner.
Ryan Amonett finished second followed by Joe Woodring, Hoppes and Royal
Scott.
Allman passed Phillips in the second heat race with an inside pass on the
front straight to record his first heat victory of the year.
Poore passed Phillips on the fourth lap with an inside move coming off the
fourth corner. Marcum and Rose rounded out the top five.
