Fritz Returns to Victory Lane; Shrout Gets First Win
By Ken de la Bastide
(August 13, 2012) –
The drivers with the Thunder Roadsters gave fans at Lawrence
Lubricants Night at the Races two excellent feature events.
In the regularly scheduled event, Larry Fritz, 63, who has been racing for
56 years, showed the younger set how to get around Anderson Speedway.
Doug Dugger took the early lead but on lap three Fritz got inside coming off
the second corner and made the pass going down the back straight.
Fast qualifier Chris Weddel moved into the second spot on the next circuit
and started turning up the pressure on Fritz.
Fritz ran a consistent ling, using the low groove through the corners and
challenging Weddel to go to the high side. Weddel attempted to get inside of
Fritz on lap 19, but instead spun coming off the fourth corner.
That put David Lobbia into the second spot and he also tried to bump Fritz
off the bottom of the track to no avail.
At the finish it was Fritz, Lobbia, Dugger, Nate Shrout and Darrell Brown.
In the make-up of the rained out July 14 feature, Shrout took the lead from
the start, but on lap 17 Lobbia got to the inside. But using the high groove
to his advantage, Shrout maintained the lead.
At the checkers it was Shrout and Lobbia followed by Marty Griffin, Fritz
and Dugger.
