(June
5, 2012) – Johnny Hargraves was in the right spot to inherit
the lead and go on to win International Outlaw Figure 8 regional action at
Anderson Speedway.
Mike St. John appeared to have resolved his season long engine problems in
regional International Outlaw Figure-8 Series action. But after leading the
first 22 laps of the feature, the engine let go ending his bid for that
first win in 2012.Prior to losing an engine, St. John was keeping Gary
Bedell at bay and Hargraves.
Following the misfortunes to St. John, Hargraves was able to record his
second career with with IOFS, winning by .288-seconds over Bedell with Jeff
Hizer coming home in third.On lap eight the cars of Bruce McFall and Shawn
Cullen made contact in the crossover.
Josh Tharp, who was running in the top five during the first half of the
race suddenly slowed which allowed both Hizer and Jeff Swinford to slip
past. On lap 18 Swinford’s car slowed, but he continued circling the track
for another six laps.
It was a race of attrition with only four of the 13 cars running at the
finish.In the first of two heat races, St. John led the entire distance
chased by Chuck Hargraves and Hizer.
The second heat win went to Shawn Cullen. Jeff Swinford and Tharp finished
second and third after passing Kenny Boggs on lap four. Boggs was caught
behind the slower car of Donnie Derry with Swinford and Tharp splitting the
two cars on the back straight.
Gary Bedell set fast time during qualifying, followed by Eddie VanMeter.
VanMeter lost an engine following qualifying and didn’t participate in any
of the racing action.
Ronnie Rose was unable to complete either the heat race or feature with a
rear gear problem.
